Hello and welcome to Selina. I’m Oli, and this is Selina’s story:The app is based on a trip I did through Latin America in 2024/25 to practise Spanish.I spent my first night in Selina Antigua (a hostel in Antigua, Guatemala), and began reciting my phone number at check-in when asked for my name. The lady then kindly suggested we speak in English…18 months of study well spent.Over the next 2 months, I spoke to hundreds of people of all ages, with different accents and backgrounds in all kinds of settings, becoming more confident and less afraid to make mistakes.At the end of the trip, I went back to Selina Antigua in Guatemala to ask for a Kindle that I lost during my first stay.After speaking to the same receptionist but this time in Spanish (she thankfully didn’t remember me), I got my Kindle back and realised how much difference my many conversations and many mistakes had made.Though Selina Antigua has now been renamed, Selina the app serves to bring it’s users the speaking confidence developed through travel.I made this app for my own use, overwhelmed by the number of grammar apps available but unable to find somewhere to practise speaking cheaply. I hope this app can also help others take their language learning from a hobby to a practical skill.We don’t track mistakes; we encourage them.Just get speaking!Cheers

Account information
When you create an account, we collect your email address and display name. If you sign in with Apple, we receive an Apple-issued identifier and, if you choose to share it, your name and email address.Voice and audio data
When you speak with an AI persona, your voice is recorded and transmitted in real time to OpenAI for transcription and conversation. Audio is not stored by us after the session ends.Usage data
We collect speaking time, vocabulary progress, streak data, and flashcard results to power your in-app stats. This data is stored on your device and, where applicable, in our Firebase database.Device data
We collect standard device information (iOS version, device model) for crash reporting and compatibility purposes.2. Third-Party Services
OpenAI
Your voice audio and text input during conversations are processed by OpenAI's API. OpenAI may use this data in accordance with their usage policies. We recommend reviewing OpenAI's privacy policy at openai.com.Google Firebase
We use Firebase (a Google service) for user authentication, cloud database storage, and server-side functions. Firebase processes your account data (email, display name, unlock progress) on our behalf. See Google's privacy policy at policies.google.com.Apple Sign In
If you choose Sign in with Apple, Apple may provide a private relay email address instead of your real address. We respect this and will not attempt to link it to other identifying data without your consent.RevenueCat / Apple App Store
